Different people suffer from varied severities of loneliness and different people deal with it in different ways. We as human beings are made to interact with other humans and have meaningful relationships, it is how we get by. Although, the conflicting part of it is that even sometimes when we have people around us, somehow, we still feel lonely. Fortunately, there are ways to deal with it. If you are feeling lonely, keep reading to learn how to ease that loneliness.

#1 Identify why you are feeling lonely

The first thing you should do is identify why you are feeling lonely. The only way you will be able to mend your feelings of sadness is to identify where they are coming from. Say you have a lot of friends, but maybe you have so many friends that you don’t have any truly deep and meaningful relationships with any of those particular people. It is possible to have relationships that not only don’t cure your loneliness but increase those feelings.

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • When do you feel lonely?
  • Are there certain people who make you feel more lonely?
  • Have you always felt this way? If not, for how long?
  • How does feeling lonely affect you?

#2 Start a journal to track your feelings

Tracking your feelings on paper can help wonders. It gives you the opportunity to self-reflect and truly get to know yourself. Being able to reflect gives you the opportunity to address certain aspects of your life or feelings that you are having. Take the questions from above and put them onto paper. You can write anything, how you are feeling, happy or sad, etc., what you are thinking, or even the activities of your day. The important thing is to open up to yourself and your journal.

#3 Try talking to someone about it

Talking to someone about how you feel can be extremely helpful as it gives another person the opportunity to address your feelings and perhaps put them into another perspective. Try talking to a trusted friend or family member and tell them how you are feeling. If you don’t have someone to talk to about it or someone that you want to talk to about it, a great option is to look into counseling in Carrolton. Even if you do have a loved one to talk to, speaking to a professional will be extremely beneficial for you.

#4 Practice Meditation

Meditation is a great way to ease strong or negative feelings, especially those associated with loneliness and depression. It will help you to get in touch with your feelings, emotions and thoughts. Find a quiet spot and sit in a comfortable position. Close your eyes and focus on your breathing. Try to not become distracted by thoughts. Keep your eyes closed, but focus on your physical senses, what do you hear, smell, feel? Now look deeper, what do you feel emotionally?

#5 Don’t dwell

Don’t dwell on your feelings of loneliness or sadness, make the decision to do something about it and move forward. If you are reading this post, you have come this far, don’t stop now.
